Imagine having a great night, seeing a live band, to then have to wait for a taxi in the pouring rain and being shoved from the security, whilst we were trying to put up one of the umbrella's outside. All staff were eating pizza inside (including the security), whilst myself and a few other ladies were getting soaked waiting for a taxi. This so called ‘security guard’ with a grey beard and bald head, would not let a handful of people stand under one of the many umbrella's outside, whilst it was pouring down. Great atmosphere, great bar but the security guy should have some respect and some basic human skills. He should also have his SIA licence on show. A very disappointing end to a great night!
Called in here for the 1st time. It was early on a Sunday lunchtime & the place was as quiet as expected. Friendly bar staff & an extensive selection of beers that were reasonably priced. Public transport permitting, hopefully we’ll be able to return & enjoy some of the live music that this venue has a great reputation for.
Really enjoyed our visit it was a nice sunny afternoon so wanted to sit outside and lucky enough the sun shines on this side of the street. Big corner area full of outdoor seating, big bar area with more choice of beers that you can think off. Also has a stage area for gigs as well. If passing well worth a visit.

Great band tonight, bar staff were great! However one member the security was a massive tyrant! Had a great night at Backstage, however once last orders was called, they wouldn’t let me and the mrs shelter under the umbrella outside on one of the benches as one member of the security “didn’t want to get wet putting the umbrella down” (it was pouring it down), whilst we were waiting for a taxi he pushed me off the umbrella and was extremely disrespectful the the other women who were also waiting in the rain outside. Great place but very disappointing at the end after a great night! The man in question had a grey beard, bald head, and had a massive chip on his shoulder. Was it a people’s pub or his?
